Pique’s Top 7 Sustainable Halloween Practices 🍂 🍁
Thrift! 🛍️ Find your costume at a local thrift store like Goodwill! We can guarantee you’ll be able to find the entirety of your outfit… including accessories!
Marketplaces: Check online marketplaces for additional outfits or accessories, including second-hand items! 👗
Costume Swap 👯: If you’re dressing up more than once this year, a great way to get another costume in the mix is to swap costumes with one of your friends. You can also swap costumes with your friends' costumes from last year if you don’t want to be an outfit repeater.
DIY! 🎨 Create your costumes or decorations with any household goods. Remember the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz? A few packs of aluminum foil and you can be him! You can also recycle aluminum foil if it’s not contaminated with food waste 🙂
Library 📚📺 Your local libraries are free in case you didn’t know, + check out used Halloween books or movies! Host a Halloween watch party with your friends.
🍽️ Food: Eat locally and in-season vegetables. This will dramatically reduce your carbon footprint + allow you to know where your food comes from. If you don’t know what’s in season near you, read our newsletter from September 18th. If you’re in North America, October is a great time to purchase: apples, avocados, carrots, cauliflower, cilantro, eggplant, pumpkins, and potatoes. YUM! 🍇🥑 🍎
Donate 🥫: If you don’t get any trick-or-treaters, a great way to make a community impact is through donating to your local food pantry.
DEBATE: When are you celebrating Halloween? The weekend before or after? Reply and let us know.
