🏡 Building Smarter Homes
In a world grappling with the challenges of climate change, finding innovative solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions has become imperative. One of the most significant contributors to these emissions is our energy consumption. This week we're sharing the story of Sense, a startup leading the charge in empowering individuals to manage their energy usage efficiently.

The Problem:
The global energy landscape is responsible for a staggering 70% of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. These emissions contribute to the rise in global temperatures, leading to catastrophic effects like extreme weather events, sea-level rise, and ecosystem disruption. It's crucial that we take action to decarbonize the world economy and shift to low carbon energy sources.
Sense: The Tech in Action 💪 ⚡
Sense is a startup addressing the urgency of decarbonization and has developed a cutting-edge solution that revolutionizes the way we manage energy in our homes. By combining machine learning, data analytics, and consumer-facing applications, Sense makes the grid smarter, enabling individuals to actively participate in creating a cleaner and more resilient future.
Their tech operates by gathering high-resolution data from utility meters, capturing power usage in homes tens of thousands of times per second. This granular level of information allows them to identify specific appliances and their power consumption patterns. With this knowledge, users can make informed decisions about their energy usage, optimize their consumption, and ultimately reduce their carbon footprint.
And the impact of Sense's solution is tangible. According to their data, active users of Sense's application have already achieved savings of 10% to 20% on their power consumption. These numbers are expected to increase even further as Sense continues to integrate with more devices for automation. As of last year, Sense saved an impressive 22,000 tons of CO2 emissions across 100,000 homes in North America.
