Bluemethane

Did you know that methane is the second most potent greenhouse gas?

Of the 51 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases emitted by humans into the atmosphere every year, a startling amount is methane - which has a global warming potential 34x that of CO2.

Bluemethane is a company that is building the technology to harness that potential and turn it into usable energy for hydro dams. While hydropower is critical to the world’s transition to cleaner and greener energy, dams emit 13 million tons of methane per year.

This company is aiming to capture methane from hydropower to stop future warming before it starts - and create biofuel in the process.

Sneak Pique

Next week we hear from a founder who has built a strategy to heighten your awareness of climate impact by building an app to track your carbon footprint.

Sanchali Pal and her company, Joro, are helping to educate consumers and help them make more informed decisions when it comes to climate and consumerism. Check back next week for the full episode.

Can YOU Fix Climate Change? - Kurzgesagt - In a Nutshell

Many people feel overwhelmed at the prospect of climate change. And yet, human society has never been as intelligent as technologically advanced as we are today. Don’t we have the capability to just… fix it?

Well, it’s complicated.

Good Climate News!

Is it ever a bad time for good news?

We think not. Starting this week, we’ll be sharing at least one toe-tapping, hand-clapping, maybe even knee-slapping piece of climate news that we hope will bring a smile to your face.

The African Great Green Wall - The Great Green Wall is an African-led movement with an epic ambition to grow an 8,000 km natural wonder of the world across the entire width of Africa. By planting a wall of trees stretching across the entire Sahel, the goal is to stop desertification from affecting the region’s wild ecosystems. 🌍

Every week we share recommendations from readers about climate films and books. This week’s rec comes from Victoria Savarino.

  • Chasing Coral - Coral reefs around the world are disappearing at an alarming rate. Divers, photographers, and scientists set out on an ocean voyage to investigate what is causing the disappearance and what we can do to help stop it.
