Pique Behind the Curtain Vol. 19

A newsletter for those who are interested in climate solutions, media and film production

Head in the Cloud (Paper)

Welcome back to this week’s edition of Pique Behind the Curtain, our weekly newsletter debuting new content, highlighting great storytelling, and sharing behind-the-scenes footage from our films.

Cloud Paper

Currently, 15% of global deforestation is due to tree-based toilet paper and paper towels. It’s the equivalent of 40,000 trees cut down per day.

The solution? Stop cutting down trees by cutting them out instead!

Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world, growing up to 3 feet per day while absorbing massive amounts of carbon during its growth. Cloud Paper is taking advantage of this renewable resource to create a sustainable alternative to paper products.

Sneak Pique

Meat production accounts for roughly 10% of our global carbon footprint. Next week we take a look at Tender Food, a company using technology to make meat - without any animals.

Beef production is incredibly unsustainable, accounting for 60% of all the agricultural land on our planet but only 2% of the calories. Tender Food’s products can address both climate and the unethical production processes of the meat industry.

Want to learn more? Check-in next week for the full film on Tender Food.

Good Climate News!

This week in good climate news 🌍:

Community gardens rarely last as long as the thriving Harambee Garden - going 12 years strong - in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago. The garden’s sunbathing fruits, vegetables, and animals have fostered youth programs and connected people from all walks of life across the road dividing the Austin neighborhood from the more affluent Oak Park. Read more about this ultimate urban farm here.
