A Pasta Strainer for Industrial Decarbonization

Welcome back to our weekly newsletter, Pique Behind the Curtain. If you’ve come in search of climate content, new film features, and all-around positive vibes, then you’ve come to the right place.

Via Separations

Most of us don't think about the energy and carbon that it takes to make the goods and products all around us. These papers, plastics, silicones, and rubbers are inputs in our clothing, our home goods, our office supplies, and much more.

Via Separations is decarbonizing the manufacturing of raw materials that go into the goods and products we use every day. Using a physical strainer-like-separator to isolate one set of molecules from another, they’re repurposing otherwise wasted resources - all while saving energy.

Sneak Pique

Next week, we take a look at a carbon-friendly climate company.

That’s right. You heard us!

Twelve believes that, when it comes to climate change, carbon actually isn’t the enemy. Instead, they look at it as an element of change. Carbon is the building block of life, and it’s also the feedstock for the materials, chemicals, and fuels that keep our world moving.

Using revolutionary technology that transforms CO2 into essential products that today are made from refining fossil fuels, Twelve is working to eliminate global emissions and lead the transformation to a fossil-free chemical and energy system of the future.

Let’s Put a Pin in It (And Never Come Back to It… Like Ever)

Climate disinformation on digital platforms is a serious threat to the public support needed to solve the climate crisis. Pinterest recently took an important stance as a major internet power by resolving to block all climate misinformation. The image-focused social network is seeking to limit the spread of false and misleading claims.

Under its new policy, Pinterest is committing to take down any content that distorts or denies the facts of the climate crisis supported by scientific consensus. The ban will include both advertisements and normal “organic” content. Inaccurate posts about natural disasters and extreme weather events will also be removed, as will misrepresentations of scientific data through omission or cherry-picking meant to erode trust in climate science.

Searches about sustainability are on the rise on Pinterest, with queries about “zero waste lifestyle” increasing by 64% in the last year. It is crucial to keep up conversation within the climate community as well as invite others in to take action, and ensuring an accurate flow of information to the public is a great place to start!
